Nayef Al-Samarat, Head of the Public Prosecution, announced Tuesday that the Grand Criminal Court’s Public Prosecutor has officially begun investigations with 25 individuals in connection to the deadly methanol poisoning case that killed nine people and injured dozens more in Jordan.

In a statement to Roya, Al-Samarat confirmed that 12 suspects have been charged with murder under Article 326 of the Penal Code, in addition to attempted murder charges under Articles 326, 70, and 80.

Thirteen others have been charged with complicity in both murder and attempted murder, stemming from their involvement in the distribution and sale of the toxic alcohol.

Al-Samarat added that investigations are still underway to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case and to assign responsibility to each suspect accordingly.

The methanol poisoning incident, which occurred last week, led to the deaths of nine individuals, including a woman in her sixties, and 57 total confirmed cases of methanol poisoning.
