Houthis fire ballistic missile at 'Israel' in first attack since Tehran-Tel Aviv ceasefire

Yemen’s Houthi movement said Saturday it launched a ballistic missile at 'Israel', marking its first declared attack since the ceasefire between Iran and 'Israel' took effect on June 24 following their brief but intense 12-day war.

The missile, identified by the Houthis as a “Dhu al-Fiqar” ballistic missile, was reportedly aimed at a “sensitive Israeli enemy target” in the southern city of Beersheba, according to a statement from Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree.

In 'Israel', sirens were heard across multiple areas, prompting brief alarm. The 'Israeli' military later announced that the missile was “most likely successfully intercepted” and caused no damage.

Houthi officials framed the launch as retaliation for 'Israeli' actions in Gaza, where the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate after months of war.

“The attack was in response to the crimes of the criminal Zionist enemy against civilians in the Gaza Strip,” Saree said in the statement. He added that the group would “continue its supportive operations until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.”
