Controlled explosion in Damascus caused loud blast: Syrian state news

A loud explosion was heard across Damascus on Tuesday evening, AFP correspondents reported, with the blast echoing through multiple areas of the Syrian capital.

The Syrian state news agency SANA later confirmed that the explosion resulted from a controlled detonation of leftover war munitions by specialized authorities near the city.
