'Israel' blocks Gaza committee visit to Ramallah, meeting held in Amman
Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, held a meeting on Sunday in Amman with fellow members of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee tasked with addressing developments in Gaza. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Jordanian capital.
The gathering followed a virtual meeting earlier in the day between the committee and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, also held in Amman.
Israeli Occupation Blocks Committee’s Entry to Ramallah
The committee was originally scheduled to visit Ramallah on Sunday, but the visit was postponed after 'Israeli' authorities denied the delegation entry through the airspace over the occupied West Bank.
In a joint statement, the committee condemned the 'Israeli' decision, calling it a blatant violation of Israeli Occupation’s obligations as the occupying power. The statement described the move as a reflection of the 'Israeli' government's arrogance and disregard for international law, as well as a continuation of its illegal policies aimed at besieging the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership while undermining efforts for a just and comprehensive peace.
High-Level Representation
The committee includes Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud (committee chair), Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud criticized the 'Israeli' government’s refusal to permit a delegation of Arab ministers to visit the West Bank, calling it a clear sign of “extremism and rejection of peace.”
Further meetings among the ministers are expected to take place later on Sunday and into Monday.
