'Israeli' minister storms West Bank village
Israeli Occupation Defense Minister Yisrael Katz stormed the Palestinian village of Sanur, south of Jenin, on Friday, one of several sites where the 'Israeli' government has approved the construction of new illegal settlements.
Sanur was previously evacuated of settlers in 2005 as part of the unilateral disengagement plan under then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
During his provocative visit, Katz declared that the Israeli Occupation plans to build the so-called “Jewish Israeli state” in the occupied West Bank.
“This is a firm response to those trying to harm us and weaken our grip on this land,” Katz said in a statement issued by his office.
His comments came in response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent remarks calling recognition of a Palestinian state a moral obligation and a political necessity.
“They will recognize a Palestinian state on paper,” Katz claimed, “but we will build the Jewish Israeli state here on the ground.”
The visit and comments have sparked condemnation from Palestinian officials, who view such actions as part of a broader strategy to entrench 'Israeli' control over occupied Palestinian territories and derail any future prospects for a two-state solution.
