WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange made a rare public appearance at the Cannes Film Festival this week, not only to support a new documentary about his life but also to make a bold political statement.
Assange, who was released from prison last year after a decade of legal battles and confinement, appeared at a photo call on Tuesday wearing a white T-shirt printed with the names of 4,986 Palestinian children aged five and under who were killed by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) since 2023.

The shirt, a stark visual tribute, immediately drew attention at the prestigious festival, where Assange was attending the premiere of The Six Billion Dollar Man, a documentary directed by American filmmaker Eugene Jarecki. The film chronicles Assange’s personal and legal journey, featuring previously unseen footage and intimate moments from his time in political asylum and incarceration.
