Jordan condemns "Israeli" attack on diplomats in occupied West Bank

Jordan strongly condemned the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) for opening fire on a diplomatic delegation that included 25 Arab and European ambassadors and consuls, along with members of the press, during a visit to the occupied West Bank.

The incident occurred in Jenin, where the group—which included the Jordanian ambassador to Ramallah—was conducting a field assessment of the humanitarian conditions in the city. Jenin has been one of the areas most affected by the ongoing IOF operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufyan Qudah described the attack as a “blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law,” calling it a serious breach of diplomatic protections and a “criminal act.”

“Jordan rejects and condemns the Israeli targeting of diplomats,” Qudah said, warning that such actions directly contravene diplomatic protocols—particularly the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the safety and immunity of diplomatic missions.

Qudah also called on the international community to take immediate steps to pressure "Israel" to end its aggression in Gaza and de-escalate the situation in the West Bank, warning of the dangerous implications of continued violence.

Reaffirming Jordan’s position, Qudah emphasized the kingdom’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He concluded by urging global powers to intervene to stop the ongoing violations against Palestinians and to ensure accountability for those responsible.
