Joe Biden diagnosed with "aggressive" prostate cancer

Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an advanced form of prostate cancer, his personal office confirmed in a statement released Sunday.

According to the statement, Biden underwent a medical evaluation last week after developing more frequent and concerning urinary symptoms. “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the office said.

Further testing on Friday revealed the diagnosis: prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9, classified as Grade Group 5, which is among the most aggressive categories of the disease. The cancer has also spread to his bones, the statement noted.

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, doctors remain cautiously optimistic. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement added.

Biden and his family are said to be in discussions with his medical team as they explore treatment options going forward.
