‘BACK TO PLASTIC!’: Trump to reverse Biden's push for paper straws

US President Donald Trump announced he intends to sign an executive order reversing what he called the “ridiculous Biden push for paper straws.” 

Trump first announced the decision on Truth Social, writing, “I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!”

He later doubled down, declaring: “Crooked Joe’s MANDATE, ‘NO PLASTIC STRAWS, ONLY PAPER,’ IS DEAD! Enjoy your next drink without a straw that disgustingly dissolves in your mouth!!!”

In 2023, the Biden administration announced plans to gradually eliminate single-use plastics from federal food service, events, and packaging by 2027, with a complete phaseout across all federal operations by 2035.

This decision marks Trump's latest move against environmental regulations. Trump formally withdrew the US from the Paris Agreement as soon as he was reinstated in the White House on January 20, signing an executive order on Monday to undo the country’s commitment to the global climate pact.
