Jordan suspends poultry imports from Brazil
Jordan’s Ministry of Agriculture announced Sunday the suspension of imports of live poultry and unprocessed poultry products from Brazil following reported outbreaks of avian influenza in the South American country.
The ministry said the decision is a precautionary measure aimed at protecting public health, safeguarding the national livestock sector, and ensuring food safety in the Kingdom.
In an official statement, the ministry said the suspension will remain in effect until further notice and will only be lifted once the epidemiological situation in Brazil improves and credible reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) confirm containment of the outbreak.
The decision also depends on Brazil’s veterinary authorities implementing necessary control and preventive measures.
The ministry noted that the ban applies to all types of live birds and poultry products that have not been subjected to sufficient heat treatment to eliminate the virus.
However, products proven to have undergone adequate thermal processing will be exempt from the restriction.
