Prime Minister Jafar Hassan meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres
Jordan’s PM Hassan holds bilateral talks on sidelines of Arab summit in Baghdad
Prime Minister Jafar Hassan held a series of bilateral meetings on Saturday with his Lebanese and Spanish counterparts, as well as the UN Secretary-General, on the sidelines of the 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad.
In his meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, both sides reaffirmed the strong ties between Jordan and Lebanon and expressed their shared commitment to strengthening them. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and the importance of continued coordination across various sectors.
Hassan reiterated Jordan’s firm support for Lebanon’s security, stability, and sovereignty, emphasizing its importance for Lebanon’s progress and the well-being of its people. Prime Minister Salam, in turn, reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to closer ties and praised Jordan’s role—under the leadership of King Abdullah II—in supporting Lebanon and broader Arab causes.
In a separate meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, both leaders highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Jordan and Spain. Hassan praised Spain’s regional efforts, especially its push for international support to end the war on Gaza and achieve a just, comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. He stressed that this solution is key to securing the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights on their own land.
Prime Minister Hassan also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss regional developments and the situation in Gaza. Both stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire, the delivery of sustained humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of Gaza without displacing its population.
Hassan commended Guterres for his principled positions and efforts to advance peace and political solutions to global and regional crises.
