'Israel' begins three-phase ‘Gideon’s Chariots’ operation to seize Gaza
An 'Israeli' military operation named “Gideon’s Chariots” has entered its first phase, with wide-scale aerial and ground attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to 'Israeli' newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
The operation, which 'Israel' says will unfold in three stages, is expected to lead to the gradual occupation of Gaza and the establishment of a long-term military presence in the besieged territory.
The first stage—already underway—involves an escalation in bombing and troop deployments. The second, currently in preparation, will include coordinated aerial and ground operations and the forced displacement of civilians to what 'Israel' labels "safe zones" in Rafah. The third phase aims for a full-scale land invasion and permanent 'Israeli' control over parts of the enclave.
Red Sea symbolism, mass displacement
As part of its psychological warfare tactics, the 'Israeli' army distributed leaflets in Gaza showing an image of the parting of the Red Sea, referencing the biblical Exodus, with the caption: “Residents of Gaza, the Israeli army is coming.” The symbolism underscores the occupational nature of the campaign, which draws its name from 'Israel’s' 1948 “Operation Gideon” that expelled Palestinians from the Bisan area.
'Israeli' sources told the media the army's goal is to pressure Hamas into agreeing to a captives deal, with reports claiming that Hamas has resumed indirect talks in Doha. 'Israeli' Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military pressure had forced Hamas back to negotiations, though 'Israel' is refusing any ceasefire or humanitarian pause at this stage. “They have less than 48 hours to decide—deal or invasion,” one official stated, referring to 'Israel’s' insistence on the original Witkoff outline.
Mass casualties, intensified shelling
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 'Israeli' attacks killed 153 people and wounded 459 in the past 24 hours alone.
In the past few days, the 'Israeli' military has intensified its shelling of northern Gaza and other regions. Heavy artillery and vehicle fire were reported in Gaza City, Beit Lahiya, Shujaiya, Khan Yunis, Jabaliya, and Deir al-Balah. The bombardment appears designed to force northern residents to flee south and pave the way for a potential ground incursion.
IOF spokespersons have stated that the attacks are still part of “Operation Strength and Sword,” allowing room for negotiations. But they warned that if talks fail, Israel will fully transition to the more expansive “Gideon’s Chariots” plan.
Security analyst Ron Ben Yishai said the current escalation is a calculated tactic to pressure Hamas during negotiations in Doha, not yet a full invasion. However, military sources confirmed that preparations for ground entry are in advanced stages and include the forced transportation of Gaza’s population.
Trump tour coincides with deadly escalation
The assault intensified following US President Donald Trump’s regional tour, during which he claimed to support a “better future” for Gaza’s population. Yet, during the three-day visit and the night he departed the UAE, 'Israeli' forces killed more than 378 Palestinians—a death toll nearly four times higher than in the days before his arrival.
