Jordan braces for heatwave through Sunday
Jordan’s Meteorological Department forecasts a notable rise in temperatures over the coming days, as a heatwave driven by a hot air mass from the Arabian Peninsula moves into the country starting Friday.
Thursday: Mild weather, western winds
Temperatures on Thursday are expected to remain moderate across most regions, with relatively hot conditions in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Scattered clouds at various altitudes may appear, with moderate westerly winds occasionally picking up.
Friday: Heatwave begins
On Friday, Jordan will come under the influence of a hot air mass pushing up from the Arabian Peninsula, leading to a significant temperature rise. The weather will turn relatively hot in most areas, and hot in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. High-altitude clouds are expected, along with light southeasterly winds.
Saturday: Heatwave peaks
The heatwave will intensify on Saturday, with another rise in temperatures. The weather will be hot and dry across most regions, and extremely hot in the desert, Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. High clouds will persist, accompanied by moderate southeasterly winds that may stir dust.
Sunday: Slight relief from the heat
The heat is expected to ease slightly on Sunday, with a minor drop in temperatures. The weather will remain relatively hot in the highlands and plains, and hot in the desert, Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. High clouds will continue, with moderate northwesterly winds that may become gusty and dusty at times.
