Saar: Unilateral recognition of Palestine would trigger "Israeli" countermeasures

Israeli Occupation Foreign Minister Gideon Saar issued a stern warning Sunday against international moves to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state, cautioning that such steps would prompt "Israel" to act independently in return.

Speaking at a press conference in Jerusalem, Saar addressed growing momentum in Europe for recognizing Palestinian statehood without negotiations. France is among the countries that have recently signaled openness to the idea.

“There have been talks about an initiative to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state,” Saar said. “Any attempt to do so unilaterally will only harm future prospects for a bilateral process and will push us for unilateral actions in response.”
