Four siblings were killed and two others injured in a fire that broke out Saturday inside a ground floor house attached to a mosque in the Abu Alanda area of Southern Amman, authorities said.

According to a spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate, fire and rescue crews from the East Amman Civil Defense Department responded to the blaze, which erupted in a ground-floor apartment linked to the mosque.

The victims, aged between 5 and 10, died from severe burns, while two other children from the same family, aged 2 and 3, suffered from respiratory distress due to smoke inhalation.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and contain it, while paramedics administered first aid before transferring the injured to Al-Tutanji and Al-Bashir public hospitals. The injuries are currently being treated.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire – the statement added.
