Three hurt in Germany after car plows into pedestrians
A major incident unfolded in downtown Stuttgart on Friday when a vehicle rammed into a group of pedestrians, injuring at least three people, authorities confirmed.
The collision occurred in the Olgaeck district of the southwestern German city, prompting a swift and large-scale emergency response. Stuttgart police reported that the driver of the vehicle, a Mercedes G-Class SUV, was apprehended at the scene.
“The area is cordoned off and the injured are being treated at the scene,” Stuttgart’s fire department said in a statement posted on X. They added that several individuals had been hurt, including some with serious injuries.
Law enforcement officials have begun interviewing eyewitnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. While the fire brigade labeled the event a "serious traffic accident," police have not yet clarified whether the act was deliberate or accidental.
Service at a nearby tram stop was halted following the crash, and significant traffic disruptions were reported throughout Stuttgart's city center. Authorities said the operation remains ongoing.
Police urged the public to avoid the area as emergency crews continued their work and investigations got underway.
