Jordan is set to deliver an oral argument before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on Wednesday, as part of public hearings examining the humanitarian obligations of the Israeli Occupation in occupied Palestinian territories.

The argument will be presented by a specialized legal team that includes international lawyers. According to the court’s schedule, Jordan’s remarks will begin at 4:00 PM local time in The Hague (5:00 PM Amman time) and will last 30 minutes. The session will take place at the Peace Palace, the ICJ’s headquarters.

The hearings follow a request from the UN General Assembly in January 2024 for an advisory opinion on the legal implications of Israel’s Occupation. The request was submitted by Norway and co-sponsored by several countries, including Jordan.

The court opened the hearings on Monday, which will continue through Friday, May 2. A total of 44 countries and four international organizations are participating in the proceedings, with all scheduled to present oral statements.

Jordan is among 45 states and organizations that also submitted written legal arguments in advance, including the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
