Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar announces resignation
Ronen Bar, the head of "Israel’s" Shin Bet security service, announced he will resign from his post on June 15, taking personal responsibility for the agency’s failure to prevent the October 7 events.
Bar reflected on the Shin Bet's shortcomings, stating that after "years [operating] on many fronts," the Shin Bet ultimately "failed in providing an early warning" on the day of the attack. "All systems collapsed," he said bluntly.

"On this special evening, symbolizing remembrance, bravery, and sacrifice, I have chosen to announce the fulfillment of that responsibility and my decision to end my tenure as head of the Shin Bet," Bar told attendees.
He pledged to continue cooperating with the High Court, which is currently reviewing petitions related to his dismissal, to safeguard the agency from political interference.
Bar’s departure follows months of public criticism over the agency’s handling of threats leading up to October 7. His resignation also comes amid a fierce dispute with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had moved to dismiss him, prompting a legal and political firestorm.
