In a recent statement, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized that Hamas must relinquish control over Gaza and transfer all weapons to the Palestinian Authority. His comments came amid ongoing discussions surrounding the continuing conflict in Gaza, which has left the region devastated by violence.

Abbas stated that the top priorities for the Palestinian leadership are to end Israel’s “genocidal war” in Gaza and demand the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip. He stressed that as long as the war continues, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will remain in power, complicating prospects for peace.

“Our people in Gaza are steadfast and reject displacement,” President Abbas said, affirming his commitment to ensuring that residents of Gaza are not forced to leave their homes. He added that Palestinians will not allow themselves to be driven out of the region despite the ongoing conflict.

Abbas also highlighted international support, noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin has donated 30,000 tons of wheat, which will be sent to Gaza to alleviate the humanitarian crisis. The donation is a significant gesture in support of Palestinians during this difficult time.

In addressing the tragic loss of life, Abbas emphasized that the 200,000 casualties in Gaza cannot be dismissed as mere “tactical losses” as some have claimed. “Those who caused the Nakba of division should not downplay the human cost of this tragedy,” he stated.
