Hamas proposes 5-7 year ceasefire in Gaza: Reports
A senior Palestinian official has revealed that Qatari and Egyptian mediators have proposed a new plan to end the aggression in Gaza, offering a ceasefire lasting between five and seven years.
According to the BBC, the proposal includes the release of all 'Israeli' captives in exchange for Palestinian detainees, a formal end to the genocide, and the complete withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces from Gaza.
The new initiative comes after a previous ceasefire collapsed a month ago when 'Israel' resumed its bombing campaign, with both sides blaming each other for the breakdown. A senior Hamas delegation is expected in Cairo for consultations on the proposed terms, though 'Israel' has yet to comment on the plan.
As the negotiations unfold, 'Israeli' air strikes continue to intensify. Since Monday evening, at least 22 Palestinians have been killed, and 45 others injured in air raids targeting locations including Khan Younis, Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Gaza City.
Eyewitnesses described the strikes as "extremely intense," with reports of bulldozers and heavy machiner, vital for rebuilding and rescue operations, being destroyed.
In Cairo, senior Hamas negotiators, including political council head Mohammed Darwish and lead negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, are engaged in talks.
According to the Palestinian official, Hamas has shown "unprecedented flexibility" and signaled its readiness to transfer governance of Gaza to any Palestinian entity agreed upon in consultations, potentially involving the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority (PA).
However, 'Israeli' Prime Minister Netanyahu has ruled out any role for the PA in Gaza's future governance.
While the future of the truce remains uncertain, the current mediation effort is being taken more seriously, with the hope that this proposal could pave the way for a long-term resolution to the conflict.
