Ancient Egyptian inscription discovered near Wadi Rum

19-04-2025 16:13|Jordan’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Lina Annab, announced a new archaeological discovery in southern Jordan during an event attended by renowned Egyptian archaeologist and Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass.
The find consists of a pharaonic inscription written in hieroglyphics, featuring a royal cartouche dating back to the reign of Pharaoh Ramses III (1186–1155 BCE). It was uncovered in an area southeast of the Wadi Rum Protected Area.
This discovery offers new evidence of the historical reach of ancient Egyptian civilization into the heart of the Arab region, further enhancing Wadi Rum’s significance as an exceptional archaeological and tourist site.
