Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the swift entry of humanitarian aid, and a full withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces during a meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa in Damascus.

Speaking from the People's Palace in the Syrian capital, Abbas stated that the Palestinian state must assume full responsibility, with arms under the control of the state alone. He also called for an end to 'Israeli' aggression in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive political process.

Abbas revealed that coordinated efforts are underway with Saudi Arabia, the United States, and concerned Arab and European nations to reach a clear framework for implementing the two-state solution, in line with international resolutions. These efforts include participation in the upcoming international peace conference scheduled for June in New York.

The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties between their countries and peoples. President Abbas briefed Al-Sharaa on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt the 'Israeli' offensive, ensure the entry of humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza, and launch a reconstruction process without displacement. He reiterated that the Palestinian state is ready to assume full civil and security responsibilities, conditional on a complete 'Israeli' withdrawal.

Abbas congratulated President Al-Sharaa on his achievements in rebuilding a new Syria, expressing hopes for greater stability and prosperity for the Syrian people. He praised Syria’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and its hosting of Palestinian refugees.

Both sides agreed to form joint committees to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields and maintain continuous coordination and consultation.
