Dagenham club fires Egyptian content creator over alleged Palestine support
Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club has terminated Egyptian content creator Salma Mashhour from her role as Director of Development and Engagement, with online users citing her public support for the Palestinian cause as the alleged reason behind the decision.
In a brief official statement shared on social media, the club confirmed, "Dagenham & Redbridge FC has removed Salma Mashhour from the position of Director of Development & Engagement, effective immediately."
Mashhour had only recently been appointed to the role as part of a broader collaboration with popular Egyptian YouTuber Marwan Serry, who recently acquired a stake in the club and joined its ownership group. Serry is widely known across the Arab world for his sports media presence.
Salma Mashhour built a following in the Arabic football community through her engaging match-day content, stadium tours, and analysis, particularly through collaborations with Serry and her joint YouTube channel with her husband, titled “Ahmed and Salma.”
However, her outspoken support for Palestine, particularly during "Israel’s" ongoing aggression on Gaza, prompted backlash from some segments of the club’s fanbase, particularly those aligned with the Israeli Occupation.
Many fans and online users speculate that this was the reason for terminating Mashhour's position.
In response, Serry and Mashhour released a video, claiming they were blindsided by the announcement but have not yet provided details behind the club's decision.
