Islamic Action Front addresses Brotherhood-linked security threats
The Islamic Action Front Party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, released a statement following Tuesday's events.
Earlier Tuesday, the Jordanian General Intelligence Directorate (GID) announced the uncovering of complex and dangerous plots, that began in 2021, targeting the country’s national security, arresting 16 individuals linked to the Muslim Brotherhood suspected of planning rocket and drone attacks.
The statement reads:
-
"We reaffirm the party’s clear and consistent stance in preserving Jordan’s security and stability, and our rejection of any attempt to undermine it. The party has always maintained this position throughout various stages the nation has gone through, and we have always stood on the frontlines defending it against external threats and internal dangers. We also affirm that bearing arms is an exclusive right of the state.
-
The party reiterates its commitment to the principles and goals upon which it was founded—as an independent political party operating in accordance with the Constitution and the laws regulating political parties. The party fulfills its national and political role in representing the popular will through national entitlements, including in parliament, local councils, and professional syndicates. We reject any incitement, defamation, or attempts to discredit this national role due to political rivalries, and we reserve our legal right to respond accordingly.
-
The party expresses its regret over campaigns by certain parties that incite against the Islamic movement and the party, attempting to attribute to it individual acts allegedly aimed at national security—even if proven true. We express our confidence in the Jordanian judiciary’s ability to uncover the truth and identify anyone involved in unacceptable actions that threaten national security, which remains a red line for all Jordanians. We also call for clarity regarding the motivations of the accused in this case, especially in light of prior official State Security Court investigation records and information provided by their families about the circumstances of their arrest.
-
We stress the importance of strengthening the internal front and blocking any attempts to sow discord that serve the schemes of the Israeli Occupation aimed at weakening Jordan or fracturing the national fabric. At a time when Jordan most needs national unity in facing threats from the expansionist Zionist project, Jordanians remain united around the nation, its security, and its stability. They continue to stand firmly in support of the people of Gaza and Palestine and their valiant resistance, and they will remain a solid bulwark against all conspiracies.
May God protect Jordan—free, strong, and secure—through its people, army, leadership, and institutions."
The operation, which had been under continuous surveillance since 2021, exposed coordinated efforts to manufacture short-range missiles, build drones, and carry out sabotage inside the Kingdom. Authorities said the suspects had been developing and hiding weaponry including explosives, automatic firearms, and a fully assembled missile ready for use.
“The covert activities had been underway for nearly four years,” government spokesperson and Minister of Government Communication, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani said, describing it as a “multi-year threat to national security.”
