A young woman was arrested by the public prosecutor in Amman on Thursday for one week, with the possibility of renewal, after she allegedly insulted law enforcement officers while they were carrying out their official duties.

The prosecutor has charged the woman with several offenses, notably for actions that could incite sedition and discord, in accordance with Article 150 of the Jordanian Penal Code.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening near Al-Kalouti Mosque in the Rabieh area of Amman, where the girl was recorded verbally abusing police officers. A video of her outburst quickly circulated on social media, drawing significant backlash and condemnation from the public.

Article 150 of the Jordanian Penal Code states that "any writing, speech, or act intended to incite sectarian or racial discord or to promote conflict among different groups of the nation shall be punishable by imprisonment for a period of not less than one year and not exceeding three years, and by a fine not exceeding JD 200."
