Sharp drop in temperatures expected as cold front approaches Jordan
Weather forecasts indicate a significant temperature drop across Jordan starting Wednesday evening, as a relatively cold air mass moves into the region.
The shift is expected to bring a sharp decline in temperatures, prompting a return to winter clothing and the use of heating.
Cold Weather Begins Tonight
Meteorologists expect temperatures to gradually fall through the evening, with cold conditions spreading across most areas. Temperatures in mountainous regions are forecast to drop to between 8°C and 10°C, accompanied by low clouds and an increased chance of fog formation, especially over high elevations in the north and south.
As cold northwesterly winds continue to sweep into the country, Thursday will see a further drop in temperatures, reaching 4–6°C below the seasonal average. Highs in the mountains are expected to range between 12°C and 14°C, while warmer areas like the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba will see temperatures between 20°C and 25°C.
Scattered Rain Showers Possible
Forecasts also indicate active northwesterly and westerly winds during the afternoon hours on Thursday, which could stir up dust in desert and eastern plains regions. There is also a growing chance of scattered rain showers in parts of the country.
Advisories:
- Drive cautiously when rainfall starts
- Be mindful of significant temperature fluctuations
- Wear warm clothing, especially for children and the elderly
The weather shift marks a notable return to colder, more unsettled conditions following a period of warmer-than-average temperatures.
