Jordanians rally outside parliament demanding expanded general amnesty

Dozens of citizens gathered outside the Jordanian House of Representatives in Amman on Wednesday, calling on authorities to issue a comprehensive general amnesty that includes cases where personal rights have been waived and reconciliation between involved parties has taken place.

The demonstrators held banners urging lawmakers to consider a wider scope of cases in any future amnesty, particularly those that were excluded from the previous decree despite settlements being reached between defendants and victims.

Protesters also directed a heartfelt appeal to His Majesty King Abdullah II, asking him to issue a royal directive that would extend the amnesty to individuals who have fulfilled legal obligations, such as obtaining personal waivers or reconciling with aggrieved parties.

According to participants, many families across the Kingdom are anxiously awaiting the return of loved ones who remain behind bars, despite resolving legal issues outside the courtroom. They described a new, expanded amnesty as a "ray of hope" for these families, particularly amid growing economic and social pressures.
