Jordan is expected to be affected by a new Khamsin wave on Tuesday, accompanied by a relatively hot and dry air mass that will push temperatures to the 30s Celsius across much of the country, according to ArabiaWeather.

The system, centered northwest of Egypt, will bring a significant rise in temperatures—surpassing seasonal averages by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. Conditions will be dry, dusty, and relatively hot in most areas, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will experience hot to very hot weather, with highs nearing 40°C. In the capital Amman and other major cities, temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C.

Winds will be moderate southwesterlies, picking up strength in the afternoon and evening hours and stirring up considerable dust across many areas.

Dense Dust Storm Expected Tuesday Night

By Tuesday evening and into the night, weather conditions will turn significantly warmer than usual, with a denser wave of dust expected to sweep across the country. ArabiaWeather reports increasing dust levels later in the day and into the night, along with the possibility of light, muddy rain in limited areas during the afternoon and evening.

On Wednesday, the system is expected to move eastward and settle over western Iraq, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures—though they will remain 3 to 5 degrees above average. The weather will be warm and dusty with scattered mid- to high-level clouds. Westerly winds will become moderate to active, with varying levels of dust intensity, especially in desert and eastern regions.

Strong afternoon winds in the eastern plains and desert areas are expected to generate dense dust storms, significantly reducing horizontal visibility and potentially bringing it to near zero.

Cooler, Humid Air to Follow

By Wednesday night into Thursday, a relatively cooler and more humid air mass will move in behind the departing Khamsin system, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and cooler weather across the Kingdom. Humidity levels will rise, and low clouds could form, possibly leading to fog over mountain peaks in northern and southern Jordan.

The shift in air masses will result in sharp temperature fluctuations between day and night—ranging from 10°C to 15°C, and up to 18°C–20°C in the desert. ArabiaWeather warns that such shifts may increase the risk of colds and seasonal illnesses, particularly among children.

ArabiaWeather Advisories:

  • Be cautious of high dust levels, especially for individuals with respiratory or eye conditions
  • Expect reduced visibility due to dust, particularly in southern and eastern regions
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba
  • Take precautions against significant temperature fluctuations between day and night
