Scorching temperatures expected in areas of Jordan as heatwave intensifies
Weather forecasts indicate soaring temperatures in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba over the weekend. The spike comes as a Khamsin low-pressure system sweeps across the country, bringing extremely hot air masses from the Sahara Desert.
Temperatures will reach the low 30s°C on Wednesday, with some areas—particularly the central and southern Jordan Valley, including the Dead Sea—potentially hitting the mid-30s°C – according to ArabiaWeather.
As the Khamsin system deepens, the influx of hot African air will push temperatures in the valley toward the upper 30s°C, nearing 40°C in some locations, resulting in extreme heat exceeding seasonal averages.
The heatwave will persist, with temperatures rising 11 to 13 degrees Celsius above normal. The weather will be warm across most regions during the day, with peak heat intensifying in the afternoon on Thursday and Friday.
Highs are expected to reach 30°C in most cities, including Amman, on both days, with urban and low-lying areas exceeding this mark.
At night, temperatures will remain warmer than usual across the country, especially in the early evening. However, cooler conditions will set in by dawn, particularly over higher mountainous areas.
