The Cybersecurity Unit successfully tracked down the individual responsible for sending fraudulent web links to citizens' phones yesterday, leading to his arrest.

According to the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson, an investigative team was formed from the Preventive Security Unit, the Cybersecurity Unit, and the Cybercrime Unit following reports of scam messages falsely appearing to be from the Jordanian police.

These messages urged recipients to click a link to access their traffic violation records, allegedly to avoid further penalties.

The spokesperson confirmed that the investigative team managed to block the fraudulent link and traced the hacker's location, discovering that the messages had been sent from within Jordan.

Through technical tracking methods, authorities pinpointed the suspect's location in an apartment in northern Amman.

A raid was conducted, resulting in the arrest of an Asian national. A search of the apartment uncovered a large number of phone SIM cards, magnetic card readers, magnetic-stripe cards, and multiple laptops.

The suspect has been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing.
