Amman declares moderate state of emergency due to forecasted weather
The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has announced a moderate state of emergency starting tomorrow morning, Thursday, along with the activation of a light state of emergency tonight in preparation for anticipated weather conditions, as outlined by meteorological reports.
Nasser Al-Rahmaneh, GAM's media spokesman, confirmed that the municipality's teams are ready to respond to any reports received at the main emergency room in Tlaa Al-Ali. He urged citizens to contact the Unified Call Center at (102 and 117180) if they observe any issues.
Residents are advised to take precautions by avoiding valleys and low-lying areas, ensuring that rooftop drainage systems are not connected to sewage drains to prevent road flooding, and refraining from littering, which can block rainwater drainage systems.
The municipality emphasized the importance of checking submersible pumps in basements and shops located below street level and urged traders to implement preventive measures when storing goods in warehouses and lower floors.
Additionally, the municipality called on contractors and construction project owners to secure building materials to prevent them from being washed away, which could directly block rainwater drainage systems.
