Jordan is set to experience a cold and wet weather pattern this week, starting Wednesday, as the country is affected by a cold and moist air mass associated with a low-pressure system.

Temperatures are expected to drop noticeably, with low clouds covering much of the sky. During the day, the weather will remain pleasant in most areas, but will be warmer in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Winds will be moderate from the west, gradually intensifying in the afternoon, causing dust, especially in desert regions.

As the evening approaches, cloud cover will increase, and rain will begin in the northern parts of the country, extending into the central regions. By late night, the rain is expected to reach parts of the south. The rain may be heavy at times, particularly in the north, with thunderstorms and hail accompanying the downpours. Increased wind speeds from the northwest are expected throughout.

The Jordan Meteorological Department has issued several warnings:

  • Reduced visibility due to dust, particularly in desert areas.
  • Possible flash flooding in the northern regions during the night.
  • Poor visibility in mountainous regions because of low-lying clouds.

Looking ahead, the cold air mass will intensify on Thursday, bringing further drops in temperature, with cloudy weather and intermittent rain in the north and center of the country, and occasional rain extending to parts of the east and southwest. Winds from the west will pick up, with gusts exceeding 65 km/h, which will stir up dust and further decrease visibility, particularly in eastern and southeastern regions.

By Friday, temperatures will drop slightly again, and the weather will be cold with periods of cloudiness and scattered showers in the western parts of Jordan. Winds will remain moderate from the west but may pick up speed in desert areas, stirring up dust.

On Saturday morning, fog is expected to form over high mountain areas, but temperatures will gradually rise throughout the day. The weather will remain relatively cold in most areas but will become warmer in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with low clouds and moderate northwesterly winds.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, especially in areas with expected rainfall, dust, and low visibility.
