Vatican releases first photo of Pope Francis since hospitalization

The Vatican has shared the first image of Pope Francis since he was hospitalized nearly a month ago, showing him at the chapel of Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.

The 88-year-old pontiff is seen wearing a stole, a vestment traditionally worn during Mass, marking a significant step in his recovery.

For the first time since his admission, Francis concelebrated Mass, meaning he participated as one of the presiding priests rather than merely attending or receiving the Eucharist, as he had in previous weeks.

The Vatican reported that the pope continued his medical treatments and therapies on Sunday while also keeping up with his work. He did not receive any visitors that day.

Francis has been battling pneumonia in what has become his longest hospital stay since becoming pope 12 years ago.

Despite concerns over his health, the Vatican has emphasized gradual improvements in his condition.
