The statement confirmed that the clinical situation is complicated and necessitates continued medical monitoring in the hospital.
Pope Francis, 88, was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Friday after completing his appointments, for further tests and to continue treatment for bronchitis.
Earlier in February, the Vatican Press Office announced that the Pope had been holding private meetings at his residence due to bronchitis.
Italian media reported on Saturday that the decision to transfer him to the hospital was made after treatment at the Vatican failed to achieve the desired results. However, close associates of the Pope reassured that his condition is not cause for concern.
