Pope Francis has expressed that he is undergoing a "period of trial" as he thanked supporters for their prayers during his recovery from pneumonia.

In a message shared on Sunday, the Argentine Pope referenced Biblical passages and offered prayers for peace in "countries wounded by war."

This marks the fifth consecutive Sunday the Pope has been absent from his weekly blessing, although the Vatican reported earlier this week that an X-ray showed "improvements" in his condition. Despite this positive update, officials cautioned that he still requires hospital treatment.

"The Holy Father still requires hospital medical therapy, motor and respiratory physiotherapy; these therapies, at present, are showing further, gradual improvements," the Vatican stated on Saturday.

Since his hospitalization, the Pope has not appeared in public, and no photographs of him have been released. In his recent message, he expressed solidarity with others facing health challenges: "I join with so many brothers and sisters who are sick: fragile, at this time, like me."

Since being admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital, Pope Francis has been treated for double pneumonia and other infections, experiencing several respiratory crises that have raised concerns about his health.
