Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem on Thursday welcomed what appeared to be a shift in US President Donald Trump's stance on the forced displacement of Gaza residents.

Qassem urged Trump to "avoid aligning with the vision of the far-right Zionist movement."

"If President Trump's statements reflect a complete reversal of the idea of displacing Gaza residents, then they are welcome," Qassem said. "We call for this position to be reinforced by compelling the occupation to implement all ceasefire agreements."

His remarks came after Trump stated on Wednesday, "No one is expelling anyone from Gaza," in response to a question during a White House meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

Trump also emphasized that Washington is working "diligently" in coordination with 'Israel' to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Since January 25, Trump had been promoting a plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries, such as Egypt and Jordan—a proposal both nations rejected, alongside other Arab states and international organizations.

In early February, he presented his plan, which proposed the permanent displacement of Palestinians, US control over the strip, and an initiative to rebuild it into a so-called "Riviera of the Middle East."

In a related development, Egypt expressed its appreciation for Trump's stance on Gaza, emphasizing the importance of fostering peace in the region and supporting a peaceful resolution that safeguards Palestinian rights and ensures stability.
