In Yemen, where years of war have devastated the economy and left countless families without providers, children as young as 13 are stepping into roles far beyond their age—taking the wheel of commercial vehicles to help their families survive.

With many fathers killed or disabled in the ongoing conflict, boys barely in their teens are forced onto the roads, navigating busy streets and heavy traffic to earn a living, Anadolu Agency reported.

Khalil Sasaga, 13, migrated with his family to Marib and now works as a minibus driver. Having learned to drive from his father, he took up the job out of necessity.

“I work to support my father and family,” he told Anadolu. “Normally, my father drives a minibus, and I do the same to help him and earn money. So far, I haven’t had any problems in traffic. The crowded roads and heavy traffic don’t bother me.”

Mursi Muhammed Salih Zevid, 13, found himself in a similar situation.

“I learned to drive to support my family, and I share my income with them. Even though the roads are busy, I don’t face any problems,” he said. “I’m just trying to earn a living.”

For 15-year-old Muhammed Ammar Mebhut Cehlen, driving has been a lifeline. With his father unable to work due to a disability, he took on the responsibility of providing for his family.

“I drive to help support my family. Since I started driving, my family’s income and quality of life improved,” he explained.
