How does Jordan handle different moon sightings between countries?

Ahmad Al-Harasess, the Director of Public Relations and Media at the Jordanian Department of Fatwa, clarified the concept of "differences in moon sightings" in Islamic law.

This concept divides into two opinions when an Arab or Islamic country announces the sighting of the Ramadan crescent.

The first opinion suggests that each country has its own moon sighting for Ramadan, while the second, which is supported by the majority of scholars, holds that a moon sighting in any Islamic country obligates other nations to follow suit.

Al-Harasess explained that Jordan follows the majority opinion, where the Fatwa Council announces the start of Ramadan based on the moon sighting from any Arab or Islamic country, provided the sighting is astronomically possible.

He added that if astronomers confirm the impossibility of sighting the moon in any country, Jordan will not follow that announcement, adhering to precise astronomical standards.
