Traffic authorities intercept vehicle speeding at 181 km/h on Desert Highway
The traffic and external patrol departments affirmed their full readiness to handle accidents and vehicle breakdowns in Amman over the past 24 hours.
The most significant incident involved stopping a vehicle speeding at 181 km/h on the Desert Highway, alongside multiple breakdowns on the airport road.
According to a traffic department representative, teams responded to three vehicle breakdowns on the airport road, another near the Prince Hamzah Hospital traffic lights toward Al-Istiqlal, a heavy vehicle breakdown after the Prince Hussein Bridge toward Al-Manaseer, and a separate incident on Al-Shaheed Street at the Mashagel Tunnel. Swift intervention minimized disruptions, thanks to the widespread deployment of traffic personnel.
An operations officer from external patrols reported that major roads remain clear, though authorities handled a vehicle rollover on the Desert Highway after Al-Hasa Bridge, resulting in two injuries transported to Tafileh Government Hospital.
Additionally, authorities responded to a collision on Road 100, causing a moderate injury, and a freight truck rollover on the Rwaished-Safawi road, which resulted in material damage to the right lane only. They also extinguished a fire in a freight truck’s cooling unit on the truck route to Aqaba.
Regarding traffic violations, officers intercepted the vehicle traveling at 181 km/h and issued citations for sudden lane changes and mobile phone use while driving. Hamzah Al-Shawabkeh of the Ramtha traffic division confirmed an intensified traffic police presence, managing two additional accidents with no reported injuries.
With Ramadan approaching, both departments announced a comprehensive traffic and security plan to ease congestion and reduce serious violations, particularly during peak hours and before Iftar. The plan prioritizes addressing double parking and other infractions to ensure safer roads.
Drivers are urged to follow traffic regulations and avoid reckless behavior, with authorities ready to provide assistance 24/7 via the emergency number 911.
