Palestinian official warns of 'Israeli' incitement against freed detainees

The head of the Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Raed Abu Al-Hummus, warned on Tuesday about escalating incitement campaigns led by far-right 'Israeli' minister Itamar Ben Gvir against Palestinian political prisoners recently released in a swap deal.

Abu Al-Hummus pointed to a video posted by Ben Gvir on Monday, in which he targeted freed detainees Ahmed Barghouti and Mohammed Abu Rabia—who were deported to Egypt—and Zakaria Zubeidi, who was released to the West Bank, accusing them of rejoining the resistance.

He condemned the incitement, calling it a "reckless and immature mentality," and argued that Ben Gvir's goal is to obstruct further political prisoner releases.

Abu Al-Hummus urged mediators and deal overseers to intervene immediately to provide international protection for the released prisoners, warning that the incitement could endanger their lives.

He concluded by saluting the freed detainees, praising their resilience and sacrifices: "The Palestinian people rejoice in your freedom—your names will forever be symbols of patriotism and struggle."
