With the holy month of Ramadan 2025 (1446 AH) expected to begin on March 1, Jordanian authorities have announced adjusted working hours for schools, universities, and government institutions to ensure smooth operations while respecting the month’s significance.

School Schedule Adjustments

The Ministry of Education has set the following schedules for public schools during Ramadan:

Single-shift schools: Classes will start at 9:00 AM, with each session lasting 40 minutes and a 10-minute break between classes. The short 5-minute break is canceled, and the school day will end after the seventh period at 1:50 PM, with the eighth period removed entirely.

Double-shift schools:

  • Morning session: 9:00 AM – 12:40 PM, with 35-minute classes.
  • Afternoon session: 12:50 PM – 4:30 PM.

Directorates’ working hours: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

Extra classes canceled: To reduce student workload, activity, sports, and arts classes have been suspended for grades with more than 30 weekly periods.

The ministry has issued detailed schedules and urged schools to comply with these adjustments to maintain a suitable learning environment during Ramadan.

Government Institutions: Flexible Work Hours

Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan issued an official directive setting Ramadan working hours for government ministries and institutions from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

The directive emphasized respecting the sanctity of Ramadan and the needs of fasting employees. Exceptions include:

  • Managers may adjust work hours based on operational needs.
  • Regular working hours will resume immediately after Ramadan.

All ministries, municipalities, public bodies, and universities are expected to adhere to these guidelines to ensure smooth workflow and productivity.

Universities to Follow Government Guidelines

Public universities will adopt the 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM schedule, with flexibility for modifying class schedules based on student and faculty needs.

These measures aim to strike a balance between maintaining education and administrative operations while accommodating fasting students and employees.

Jordan’s Ramadan schedule reflects the government’s commitment to supporting both work efficiency and the religious and social significance of the holy month.
