Jordan to sight Ramadan crescent on February 28

Jordan is preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1446 AH (2025) by sighting the crescent moon on Friday, February 28.

The General Iftaa Department will call on citizens and residents to observe the crescent after sunset on February 28 (29 Sha'ban 1446 AH). Observation teams will be deployed across Jordan to assist in sighting the moon, either with the naked eye or telescopes.

Astronomical calculations suggest the crescent may be visible Friday evening, indicating that Ramadan could begin on Saturday, March 1. However, the final decision will depend on the official moon sighting.

The announcement comes as markets and mosques prepare for the holy month, with the official confirmation expected to be broadcast on local media Friday evening.
