VIDEO: King Abdullah: "Let’s not get ahead of ourselves" on US taking control of Gaza
US President Donald Trump made a firm statement regarding his stance on Jordan, saying, "I do not threaten Jordan with financial aid in exchange for anything." His remarks came as he outlined his plans for Gaza in a press conference with King Abdullah II on Tuesday following His Majesty and the Crown Prince's visit to the White House.
"I understand the real estate sector, and the Palestinians will love what we will offer them," Trump said, emphasizing that his goal is not to purchase Gaza, but to "own it to rehabilitate it." He described Gaza as a potential "jewel" and one of the Middle East’s most valuable assets, predicting that it would bring peace to the region.
Trump also addressed questions surrounding the authority that would grant him control over Gaza, responding simply, "Under American authority."
King Abdullah Responds to US Plans for Gaza
King Abdullah II was asked what he thinks about the possibility of the United States taking control of Gaza. He responded, "Well, I think, as I said earlier, the President is looking at Egypt coming to present that plan. As I said, we will be in Saudi Arabia to discuss how we can work with the President and with the United States. So I think, let's wait until the Egyptians can come and present it to the President, and not get ahead of ourselves."
King Abdullah Offers to Welcome 2,000 Palestinian Children from Gaza for Treatment
During the meeting, King Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, announcing that Jordan would welcome 2,000 Palestinian children from Gaza for medical treatment. The initiative is part of Jordan's ongoing humanitarian efforts amid the current situation.
The King also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, noting that Egypt is working on a strategic plan to collaborate with the new US administration on various regional issues, including how to engage with President Trump on these matters.
Trump Skeptical About Hamas Meeting His Deadline for Prisoner Exchange
Trump also expressed doubts about Hamas respecting the deadline for the release of 'Israeli' captives. "I don't expect them to honor the Saturday deadline," he stated, casting skepticism on their commitment to the agreement.
Trump elaborated on his vision for Gaza’s future, stressing that the long-term development of the area would create significant job opportunities and contribute to economic growth in the region. He reiterated that his plan for Gaza is focused on ensuring security and stability for the Middle East, although he clarified that he does not plan to personally participate in its real estate development.
