UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has stated that Britain does not support Donald Trump’s proposal to remove Palestinians from Gaza and place the territory under US control, though he avoided directly criticizing the plan.

During a press conference in Kyiv, Lammy responded carefully when asked whether Trump’s idea—widely condemned as ethnic cleansing—violates international law. While acknowledging Trump’s call to rebuild Gaza, he reaffirmed the UK’s stance on a two-state solution, according to The Guardian.

“Donald Trump is right,” Lammy said. “Looking at those scenes, Palestinians who have been horrendously displaced over so many months of war, it is clear that Gaza is lying in rubble.”

However, he added: “We have always been clear in our view that we must see two states and we must see Palestinians able to live and prosper in their homelands in Gaza, in the West Bank. That is what we want to get to.”

Lammy emphasized the importance of moving forward with the captive deal phases and reconstructing Gaza with the support of the Palestinian Authority and regional partners.

His comments highlighted the delicate position of US allies, who must balance diplomatic relations while opposing controversial proposals.

Trump, speaking at the White House alongside 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, described Gaza as a "demolition site" and suggested the US could take control of it. He stated, “The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.”

Meanwhile, UK Environment Secretary Steve Reed also distanced Britain from Trump’s proposal, saying, “The UK government’s view is, and will remain, that Palestinians must be able to return to their homes and rebuild their shattered lives.”
