The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, revealed today the date for the funeral ceremony of their long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in an “Israeli” airstrike on September 27, 2024.

"After security conditions prevented holding a funeral" during two months of all-out war between the group and “Israel” that ended on November 27, Hezbollah has decided to hold "on February 23 a grand... public funeral" for Nasrallah, Qassem said in a televised speech.

He added that Nasrallah’s cousin and the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council Hashem Safieddine’s funeral will also be on February 23.

Qassem added that Safieddine will be mourned as Secretary-General of Hezbollah; confirming that he did indeed take up that role for a brief period after Nasrallah’s assassination – despite no public announcement by the Lebanese group at the time after the streak of high-level assassinations by “Israel”.

Nasrallah will be buried between the old and new airport roads in Beirut, and Safieddine in his hometown of Deir Qanoun En Nahr, according to Qassem.

“Israel assassinated Hashem Safieddine after his election as the party’s Secretary-General,” he continued.

Regarding “Israel” extending its stay in south Lebanon past the withdrawal deadline, Qassem warned that “Israel” has no future in the south, and that the Lebanese state is responsible for stopping “Israeli” violations and implementing the ceasefire agreement.

“We will act at the right time to confront Israeli violations.”

“What Israel is doing cannot be described as mere violations – it is an act of aggression,” he said.
