Did TikTok ban “Free Palestine” comments?
Online users are discussing TikTok's handling of pro-Palestinian content, particularly reports that the platform is banning “Free Palestine” comments.
One user on reddit posted a screenshot of his comment being removed. The message from TikTok read: “Content removed – This comment violates our community guidelines.”
The comment simply read “Free Palestine” according to the notice message sent to the user by TikTok’s moderation system.
“As soon as I commented this, it was immediately removed by the system,” the reddit user said.
The thread gathered around 5,000 thousand upvotes and 230 comments with many other users reporting the same.
“I tested it myself and 7 of my 10 'free Palestine' comments were auto-removed,” another user said.
The revelation comes as many were theorizing about the recent TikTok ban in the United States, which was shortly reversed by Donald Trump after assuming his duties.
Many social media figures have speculated that the ban comes from “Israeli” lobbying groups because of the high number of pro-Palestine content on the app.
Users reposted a clip of Amichai Chikli, the “Israeli” Minister of Diaspora Affairs, talking about the need to reduce "antisemitism" on TikTok.
"We work regularly with the leadership of various social organizations. We had a lot of correspondence, especially with TikTok because TikTok was very, very problematic, especially at the beginning of the war. They have taken a lot of steps to try and prevent antisemitism to go widely on the platform. It is better now than it was 10 months ago, but still there is a lot of work to do—especially on X,” Chikli said earlier in the war.
There is no concrete evidence yet that TikTok enforced a targeted ban on "Free Palestine" comments, and the platform itself has yet to comment on the matter.
