Central Bank: Fee exemption for government payments via "eFAWATEERcom"
The Central Bank of Jordan has reached an agreement with local banks, the Jordan Payments & Clearing Company (JoPACC), and MadfooatCom to exempt individuals from fees on government service payments and bills made through the "eFAWATEERcom" system, starting Jan. 13, 2025.
This exemption applies to payments for government entities funded by the general budget, including the Civil Status and Passports Department, the Department of Land and Survey, the Ministry of Justice, the Social Security Corporation, public universities, and the armed forces.
However, fees will still apply to cash payments made at bank counters or through other payment methods.
Promoting digital transformation and financial inclusion
In a statement on Thursday, the Central Bank emphasized that this decision aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2025) and supports the transition to a cashless economy, ultimately improving citizens’ quality of life.
The initiative aims to reduce financial burdens, encourage electronic transactions, and enhance financial inclusion while saving time and effort.
Collaboration with the financial sector
The Central Bank praised its partnership with banks, JoPACC, and MadfooatCom, highlighting the financial sector's role in driving digital transformation.
The bank anticipates increased adoption of digital payments, contributing to a gradual shift toward a cashless society. This move is expected to enhance the efficiency of government revenue collection and reduce reliance on cash transactions, which is in line with modernization efforts.
Citizens are encouraged to utilize digital payment services for lower costs and a more convenient payment experience.
