The Lebanese Parliament session commenced with a fierce exchange between independent MP Paula Yacoubian and MP Salim Aoun from the Free Patriotic Movement. The altercation erupted after Yacoubian emphasized the need to adhere to the constitution.

Aoun hurled derogatory remarks at Yacoubian, stating, "You are the degenerate," to which she retorted, "You are despicable and lowly, just like your party, which lacks honor." Aoun also directed insults at other lawmakers.

Yacoubian subsequently requested that the session's minutes be amended to omit the offensive language.

The Parliament convened on Thursday to elect a new president, aiming to resolve a vacancy that has persisted for over two years, exacerbating Lebanon's political and economic crises.

The session is expected to culminate in the election of Joseph Aoun as president, supported by both international and regional stakeholders, according to statements from Lebanese officials.
