The Solidarity is Global Institute (SIGI), also known as Tadamon, released its annual statement, reporting that 25 family-related murders occurred in Jordan in 2024, a decrease from 27 such murders in 2023.

These 25 murders resulted in 32 victims, including seven with severe injuries. The deaths were caused by various methods, including gunshots, strangulation, and stabbing.

In their statement, Tadamon also noted that among the victims, 18 females were murdered by family members, including four young girls.

Some of the most disturbing cases included a 27-year-old father who strangled his two-year-old daughter in Sahab, east of Amman, and another tragic incident in Irbid where a one-year-old girl died after her father severely burned her with hot water.

A newborn baby was also found murdered by strangulation in Russeifa. In Amman, a father killed his daughter and sent the video of the crime to his ex-wife as revenge for her refusal to return to him.

Tadamon stated that the crimes involving women demonstrate a recurring pattern of severe domestic violence. In one case, a woman died in April 2024 after her husband struck her with a hot cooking pot, causing severe skull fractures and burns.

Another case involved a woman in Ein Al-Basha who died after being brutally beaten by her brother. In yet another case, a young woman was murdered by her brother after enduring repeated physical abuse that amounted to torture.

Tadamon expressed deep sorrow over a tragic crime in Karak governorate, where a young man stabbed his mother 40 times, causing her death in a horrific act of violence that has left a deep emotional scar on the family and the community.

According to Tadamon, seven male victims were involved in family-related murders, most of whom killed a family member before taking their own life. Some of the incidents included a man who killed his brother and wounded another family member before jumping to his death from the Abdoun Bridge in Amman. Another case involved a man shooting his wife and daughter before ending his own life in Irbid.

Family-related murders in 2024 were reported across various regions, with 10 incidents in Amman, six in Irbid, three in Zarqa, and additional cases in Karak and Balqa, as well as two crimes committed by Jordanians against their families abroad. The most common methods of killing were stabbing, followed by shooting and the use of household items such as knives and cooking pots. Some of these crimes involved disturbing methods like pouring hot water or burning the victims.

Tadamon reaffirms its commitment to combating such crimes and addressing their root causes. It calls for stronger official actions to tackle violence in all forms, stressing the importance of national and community efforts to analyze, understand, and address the underlying causes of family violence.
