Another newborn freezes to death in Gaza, bringing toll to 8
A Palestinian 35-day-old infant, Yousef Ahmad Kalloub, froze to death in Gaza, bringing the number of cold-related deaths to eight amid Israeli Occupation’s ongoing war on Gaza, the Health Ministry reported on Monday.
In a statement published Sunday, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced on its platform, X, that cold weather and inadequate shelter are contributing to the deaths of newborns in Gaza.
The agency reported that 7,700 newborns lack access to lifesaving care which left at least seven babies killed due to harsh conditions.
Additionally, World Health Organization (WHO), issued a statement condemning 'Israeli' military attacks that have rendered Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza non-operational.
The UN agency reported that 'Israel' has conducted 50 attacks on the hospital and its surrounding areas since October 2023. The WHO also called for the release of Kamal Adwan Hospital's director, Hussam Abu Safiyya.
Displaced Gazans are living in tents made of fabric and nylon, facing dire humanitarian conditions caused by a severe shortage of basic necessities, including water, food, clothing, heavy blankets, and heating resources during the winter. These families were forced into such conditions after 'Israel' destroyed their homes, displacing them to areas south of the Netzarim axis.
Estimates from Gaza’s Government Media Office revealed that nearly two million of the Gaza Strip’s 2.4 million residents have been displaced.
For over 15 months, the Israeli Occupation has targeted essential means of survival in Gaza, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
